We learn. We do. We succeed.
The Covina-Valley Unified School District Adult Transition Program (ATP) is designed for students ranging from 18 to 22 years of age with moderate to severe disabilities. Classes are located at Fairvalley High School, which provides a familiar school setting while allowing access to community-based experiences.
The ATP offers a range of classes that address different levels of disability; levels of support are based on individual student need. The program focus is on Job Readiness & Retention Skills, Functional Academics, Vocational Exploration, Independent Living Skills, and Recreation & Leisure Activities.
Lessons learned in the ATP classroom are practiced in real-world settings. A fully functioning, on-site, studio apartment enables students to practice daily living skills. Work settings provide reinforcement of job skills.
In addition to academic and vocational skills, ATP participants develop self-determination and self-advocacy skills. They make decisions, interact with the community and develop hobbies and leisure interests.
Participation in the C-VUSD Adult Transition Program enables students to envision their post-high school lives. We provide a full range of experiences that foster community integration and build independence.
Students and their families are core members of the teams that develop individual goals and activities related to community involvement, independent living, recreation/leisure, employment, and self-advocacy.
Vocational Exploration (VE) activities allow ATP students to practice basic employability skills in real-world settings. VE sites are established at small and large businesses in the local community. Our partner business owners and managers are highly committed to the success of people with disabilities in our community.
Our mission is to prepare students for success as lifelong learners and productive citizens. We provide school and community-based experiences that build on the students’ interests and abilities and support them in their transition to post-school adult lives.
We strongly believe that young people with disabilities should be active participants in making critical decisions about their futures. The ATP provides academic and vocational experiences that allow students to envision their potential for meaningful employment and personal fulfillment. The desired outcome is to graduate well-rounded, job-ready, integrated adults.
