Sierra Vista Middle School provides specialized academic classes for students who are Deaf/ Hard of Hearing. 

Sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students attend these classes or they are included in the general education classroom when appropriate.  Interpreters are available in general education classes and for extracurricular activities as needed. 

The Deaf/ Hard of Hearing Program at Sierra Vista utilizes a total communication approach. Total communication may involve one or several modes of communication (manual, oral, auditory, and written), depending on the particular needs of the child.  In addition to education specialists who teach in the classroom, the Deaf/ Hard of Hearing Program has access to a wide range of district administrators, service providers, and support staff including a director, a program specialist, an audiologist, a support services specialist, a vocational education services specialist, a speech and language pathologist, an adapted physical education teacher, instructional aides, and interpreters. 

Also available through our district-wide program are free sign language classes, parenting classes, and a DHH PTA.
