| | | | | Dear Families and Students, As we enter March, we want to remind everyone about the importance of consistent school attendance. Regular attendance is vital for academic success, and it ensures students stay engaged and on track. As we approach the final stretch of the school year, let’s work together to ensure that all students are present and focused.
Important March Events
SAT/PSAT Testing – March 19 On March 19, all FHS and C-VLOA students will take the SAT/PSAT exams. These tests are important for college readiness and academic progress. Please ensure your child arrives on time and prepared for the test.
California Healthy Kids Survey – March 20 On March 20, students at both schools will participate in the California Healthy Kids Survey. This confidential survey helps us improve student well-being and safety. Participation is encouraged, and all responses are kept anonymous.
We appreciate your support in making March a successful month for all students. Let’s continue to prioritize attendance and make the most of these important opportunities. Sincerely, Rebecca Handzel
| | | | | Our students recently had the opportunity to visit Mt. SAC for their Preview Day! This exciting trip allowed students to tour the beautiful campus, explore various academic departments, and meet with faculty members. They learned about the diverse programs Mt. SAC offers, from specialized courses to unique student resources. It was a valuable experience that gave students a closer look at what college life could be like and provided important insights into the many opportunities available at Mt. SAC. We look forward to seeing how this experience inspires our students as they plan for their future academic journeys! | | | | Our students recently visited Cal State LA for an enriching field trip! During their visit, they toured the campus and learned about the wide variety of academic programs available, including the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), which offers benefits such as priority registration and access to numerous in-house scholarships. A highlight for our students was discovering the abundance of workspaces, lounge areas, and charging stations across the campus, which made a strong impression on their view of college life. Additionally, students had the chance to visit the Engineering and Technology Building, where they saw the Solar Eagle III, Cal State LA’s solar-powered vehicle, up close. This hands-on experience inspired our students and gave them a glimpse into the exciting possibilities for their future college and career paths. | | | | | Today, our school had the privilege of hosting a special assembly with Goals For Life, a non-profit program dedicated to providing academic support, mentoring, and goal-setting tools to youth. The program empowers students by connecting them with former professional athletes who serve as mentors. We were honored to welcome FHS Goals for Life Mentor and former NFL player Rick Ellis, retired NFL player Mr. Ron Brown, an Olympic Gold Medalist, Pete Williams, a former NBA and European basketball player, and Dave Des Rochers, a former NFL player and current President of the NFL Players Association. These inspiring mentors shared their personal journeys, emphasizing the importance of setting goals, perseverance, and strategies for achieving success in life both on and off the field. The students were deeply appreciative of the opportunity to hear firsthand from such accomplished individuals, and their visit left a lasting impact on our campus. The students felt motivated and empowered, recognizing the importance of hard work and determination in pursuing their own goals. The assembly was truly an unforgettable experience for all involved! | | | | Mental Health & Wellness ResourcesWe are committed to supporting the well-being of our students and families. This training is not just a valuable skill to have; it can be life-saving. Knowing how to perform CPR and use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) gives you the ability to act in emergencies, help others, and make a difference in your community. Plus, CPR/AED certification is a fantastic addition to your resume, showing future employers or colleges your readiness to step up when it matters most.
Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity! All interested students should sign up with Ms. Handzel as soon as possible to secure your spot. They planned the trip by looking up which bus routes to take and used the elapsed time they’ve been practicing in class to determine the times for the trip. Looks like you had a great time room 18! | | | | ATP's Room 20 had a delightful dining experience at Flower Beans Cafe, where students enjoyed delicious crepes. The outing was a wonderful opportunity for the class to try something new. It was a memorable outing that not only treated their taste buds but also encouraged teamwork and positive interactions outside the classroom. | | | Ceramics Night kicked off on Monday, where students were guided by our amazing Ceramics teacher, Miss Soria, to create their own unique masterpieces.
